Julio Languiller has made a name for himself by going too far. It seems his publicity machine has something else in the pipeline. With an uncanny ability to travel very long distances on modern scooters without a break, he has become the master of the long-haul, claiming to be raising awareness for scootering, fuel economy, safety, etc.
Whether you dig the BIG scooters or not, a ridiculously long ride is a ridiculously long ride................ so here's the press release .........
MEDIA RELEASE 19 April 2007
Scootering challenge revs up for August
departure
This year’s Scootering Around Australia
will kick off in August and riders can now enter.
Run by the Melbourne-based Scootering
Around Australia Team, this year’s challenge is a month-long ride around the
country, with the focus on fuel economy.
Last
year the team created a world-record first when Julio Languiller rode around
the country (15,000kms) on a Honda Silverwing in 15 days.
Julio said while last year’s challenge
proved scooters could do the job, this year’s challenge is designed to
highlight scooters’ fuel-efficiency and their incredible capacity as an
environmentally-friendly machine.
“With low fuel consumption, even lower fuel
emissions and nowadays being manufactured out of recyclable materials,
commuters are recognising that scooters are a fine green alternative to the
car, or public transport, and are converting to two wheels.
“Now people who enjoy their two-wheel
travelling and who want a real adventure can get involved and see what these
vehicles can really do.”
Julio said private individuals or companies
could enter the challenge now, as manufacturer entries had closed, however,
numbers are limited.
“So far, it’s going to be a clash of the
titans on the manufacturing front, “ he said,
“Honda and Bolwell are very excited
about entering the competition in its inaugural year – as the only
manufacturers doing so, it's a strong indication of their confidence in their
machines.”
Julio said he was hoping to see some new
records set on this ride; the greatest number of scooters riding around
Australia, and the least amount of fuel used amongst the different categories
of scooters.
He said prize money would go to the
different categories with the least amount of fuel consumed, as well as the
most consistent fuel usage.
