AUSTRALIAN SCOOTERIST MANIFESTO

I have answered the question "Is this project for classics only?" so many times, it is time to explain my hopes and dreams for this publication. Please keep in mind my definition of a traditional scooterist is based on the attitudes and lifestyle of a scooter rider and NOT what he or she may be riding at any particular time.  Most clubs that this publication is based on have a mixed membership. Click read more for the full lowdown.

Primary Goals

  • To unite the traditional scooterist community. The scooterist scene in Australia is spread very thinly across this huge land, making it seem virtually invisible to anyone wanting to get into it, back into it, or just keep abreast of goings on.
  • To have the local industry enter a mutually supportive relationship, giving restorers. tuners, repairers and shoppers information on where to find such products and services.
  • To allow new scooterists access to information on where clubs are, what club suits them, when events are on etc.
  • To provide a hard copy piece of current scootering history.
  • To give offshore scooterists info on our own scene.
  • To allow people with great scootering stories to share them with the whole community.
  • To welcome anyone to the traditional scooterist world for them to see if they like it.

Secondary Goals

  •  Inform non-traditional scooterists of the goings on and demystify the mind of the scooter freak.
  • Be able to maintain a monthly publication that is financially viable.
  • To provide a news based website that will effectively represent Australian Scootering to non-scooterists and Overseas scooterists
  • To provide a certain amount of content of human interest articles on modern scooterists, in contrast to 'machine' based news that does nothing to inform traditional scooterists of the element of scooter maniacs out there on modern machines.

I DO NOT WANT ....

  • To unite all scooter riders in one big happy family. Not Possible, nor desirable. This is for scooterists not scooter owners. There are forums out there for that.
  • A publishing empire. Unfortunately there are not enough of us to get a big glossy mag going at this point.  The less copies we print, the more they cost per page to print, making the margin for profit on sales negligible. In order to continue as a regular publication, the industry will be sponsoring/ advertising the ongoing cost as well as the cost of publisher's time. This way the magazine will, while not getting me rich,  not become a burden either.
  • To provide a forum for bickering.
  • To become any kind of political mouthpiece. (unless howard gets another term, then it's game on)
  • To become the enemy of one particular group, simply because I choose to something positive for another. No-one curses Fred Hollows because he didn' t give kids hearing aids.
  • A TV-1 (kidding)
