I asked an old pom where he was from. When he said Brighton, I instinctively asked if he witnessed any of the mod/rocker bizzo back in the day. We WERE standing near my scooter, and he WAS buying a framed picture of a 57 Trumpy (from me at a garage sale), so the question wasn't completely from left field. The answer I got was more than satisfactory.
"Did we ever. me and my mates used to sit near the window in the pub drinking pints and watch them carrying on. Bloody entertaining, them days. Easter was the best one. Any weekend that had a day off Monday was when it went on. Then they got into the alleys, the old alleys. Shame about the shop windows. That old ripple glass can never be replaced. Some of it was from the 1600's. Those kids were nuts."

6:30 PM Friday and a bedraggled motorcycle courier staggers in with two full copy boxes of Australian Scooterist Magazine.
The 'double sunset' issue is now in my hands and it looks good. I'll be numbering and signing them at the weekend, posting Monday.
Thanks for your patience, and don't forget to get to work on your submissions for August.

It’s pissing rain in a public holiday. Ten degrees outside
and I am feeling sorry for myself because the ride to the beach was cancelled.
I have been cheated out of a scooter experience. After scanning ten forums on
the web, checking on this website, checking on
the order for parts to complete my Lambretta, laying out the format of my new
venture ‘scooterlabs’ in which folk can join and share tools and workshop space
…. I am still itching for scooter action. Never mind the twenty five kilometers
I do every day. When did this thing become so all-encompassing? I don’t even
remember even looking at the engine of my first PX. Is it you people? Can’t be.
Scooterists on the internet make Big Brother housemates look like Tibetan monks.
Is it the fact that collecting banged up scooters is so damn easy to hide from
the wife?... “oh that old frame… I swapped it with Klaus for an old carby I don’t
use”.
Whatever it is, it’s not just me. Right now I would feel
better reading about other scooter obsessive folk, as I’m sure you would, leading
me to my point. I am hoping some others will send in their ‘confessions’ for me
to publish on this site, or even in print.

Julio Languiller has made a name for himself by going too far. It seems his publicity machine has something else in the pipeline. With an uncanny ability to travel very long distances on modern scooters without a break, he has become the master of the long-haul, claiming to be raising awareness for scootering, fuel economy, safety, etc.
Whether you dig the BIG scooters or not, a ridiculously long ride is a ridiculously long ride................ so here's the press release .........

Australian Scooterist Forum
People are starting to use the forum, which is good. I decided it would be good to have a searchable database of forum topics, so eventually answers can be found to peoples questions. If you ask a question and it is resolved, please come back and share the solution.

Australian Scooterist Magazine's first ever centrefold superstar Siobhan Ellis has taken out the People' s choice award for best scooter at Auto Italia last weekend. The event is held annually in Canberra and feature all types of Italian manufactured motor vehicles.
Siobhan's TS1 Lambretta features more performance modifications than
you can count, as well as the full 'mod' paraphenalia. The sidepanel
artwork features the Faces' album cover 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake'.
Well done Siobhan, and I'm sure we will go into more detail in the June issue of Australian Scooterist Magazine.

So far these are the events I am aware of that are in the planning process. People are expected to inform me of their events and rallies, so I can add them to this article......
Carry on up the Murray - Queens birthday weekend (early June) being organised by Stuart from Melbourne. See article for updated details.
Canned due to lack of rider interest. It seems during the middle of winter, clubs prefer overnighters reasonably close to home. Don't give up Stuart.
Abominable Snow trip - Paul Mac's legendary trip to the snow. Inspired by his long history of scootering in New Zealand, Paul organises an annual run to a destination in the vic alps. This year looks to be an overnighter. More soon on that one. See www.melbournescooter.org for rally reports from last year.
Mountain Goat Scooter Run - Following the success oflast years event, we are seriously considering doing it again. The venue was perfect, the ride up was great from Melbourne. All scooterists are invited, and last year we got Riders from Adelaide, Tassie, and NSW. It was in November last year, and will probably be in November this year. See www.melbournescooter.org for rally reports from last year
NAtional scooter rally - So far it looks like the Australia Day weekend will stay. From polls created on groups all ove r the country, the majority of votes were to keep it on Australia day. The feeling I get is that the north coast of NSW is ahead in the pack at this stage. There's a sticky thread in the forum section ready for any comments on this.

There are a couple of polo shirts left over from the national, so I am selling them from here. The money will be added to the mystical National Rally Fund (not the derek drinks beer fund). I am soon to start promoting the first issue and dvd, so if you want one , grab it now. |
